Many companies fail to maintain a healthy work environment because they focus on other aspects of their business that they perceive as more important. But it’s essential to remember that the culture of your company is what brings your employees together, makes them motivated to work, and helps them grow both personally and professionally.
What Is Culture in the Workplace?
Culture has to do with the values and actions that are deemed important by a particular group, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. A culture can be based around geographical location, religion or even language. In this article, we’re talking about corporate culture — the set of values held by those who work for a business.
The first one is communication. You need to be able to share ideas and concepts within your team without fear of repercussion. If you can’t do that, it’s going to create an environment of distrust and isolation, which then leads to an inability to focus on the task at hand.
The second rule is respect. Each person in the workplace should be afforded respect regardless of position or job title. This allows people to focus on delivering excellent work rather than being fearful of what may happen if they don’t meet expectations.
The third rule is trust. Without trust, employees will not only feel uncomfortable but also unsafe in their jobs. If they don’t feel comfortable with their supervisor or manager, they will not be able to perform well at work because their mind will always be on other things instead of what needs done now!

Even if you think that your employee will not file a lawsuit against you, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so document everything in detail. With all the technology these days, it’s easy to set up a video system in your office and record what happens behind closed doors. If you prefer not to use technology, then keep paper files on each employee with detailed information on any positive or negative actions taken against the employee.
- Allow for personal growth
In order for your company to have a positive environment, you need to allow for personal growth by providing educational opportunities or mentorship programs within the organization. Employees should feel like they’re able to grow with the company so they can develop new skills or enhance old ones.
- Lead by example
In other words, walk the talk. If you want your workers to be active, eat well and be more mindful of their health and well-being, then as a leader you should too. For example, if you’re going out to lunch with your employees, choose a restaurant that offers healthy menu options and encourage everyone to choose something good for them (not just the salad). And if you’re having a meeting or giving a presentation where people will be sitting for an extended period of time, make sure you offer a quick break so they can stretch or take a walk. You should personally participate in these breaks so that others follow suit.
