AmeriCorps panel discussion scheduled for April 4th

Ohio University students can learn more about AmeriCorps during a panel discussion on Thursday, April 4.

Ohio's Community Engagement Center will host a panel discussion with program alumni and managers highlighting local opportunities to serve with AmeriCorps. The program will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Baker University Center Multicultural Center, Room 213. Panelists for this event include members of the Ohio University Community Action Center, Rural Action, COMCorps, Ohio University's AmeriCorps program, the Ohio History Service Corps, and the Ohio Outdoor Corps.

AmeriCorps is a full-time National Service opportunity for passionate people who want to gain full-time, real-world experience and make a difference in communities in need. This session will focus on local programs, but there are opportunities for all states. Position placements include nonprofit organizations, agencies, schools, and community-based programs.

Members receive a modest living allowance and an educational stipend that can be used toward federal student loans and future educational expenses. Other benefits include medical care, childcare assistance, service-related budgets, and networking and training opportunities.

Opportunities include summer positions and year-round positions. Applicants do not need to be current students.
