youngstown, ohio (WKBN) – Auditions were held Tuesday for a play about the life of Amanda McCauley, who died of a fentanyl overdose a year ago.
Poland's Amanda McCauley died of a fentanyl overdose at the age of 27, and her life and death story is now being told in a play to raise awareness of the dangers of fentanyl.
“It's going to be a beautiful play. It's going to show her life,” said Donna McCauley, Amanda's mother.
Donna, Launched a campaign about the dangers of fentanyl After my daughter passed away, I posted her message. Yanaka signboardstarted the non-profit AM Wake Up Call and is currently organizing plays.
“As soon as I heard the story and what happened to my daughter, I knew it would be a great movie,” said Michael Anthony Forney, the play's director.
“We're going to add a Broadway element to it. Amanda was interested in modeling and she also danced. There were a lot of elements to her story,” Forney said.
The working title is “Amanda.” While there will be laughter and tears, Donna also wants to convey her strong message.
“But if these kids could remember Amanda's face when they had to make a choice, and say no, and remember Amanda and say, 'You know what, I don't want to die.'”
The play will be held Oct. 11 at Powers Auditorium in Youngstown.
