‘Cheers’ actress Kirsty Alley dies of cancer at age 71

WASHINGTON — Kirsty Alley, best known for her role as Rebecca Howe on “Cheers,” has died at the age of 71 from “recently discovered” cancer.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our incredibly fierce and loving mother has passed away after a recently discovered battle with cancer.” As much as she was, she was an even better mother and grandmother.”

“She was surrounded by her closest family, fought with great strength, and left us with the endless joy of living and the certainty of what adventures awaited,” added her children. We thank the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at Moffitt Cancer Center for their care.”

Alley starred as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom “Cheers” from 1987 to 1993 and won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award in 1991.

She had her own sitcom “Veronica’s Closet” on the network from 1997 to 2000. Her two-time Emmy Award-winning actress also appeared in the 1989 hit film Look Who’s Talking.

In the 1989 comedy Look Who’s Talking, she got a big career boost, playing the mother of a baby. Her baby heart voice was expressed by Bruce Her Willis. She also appears in the 1990 sequel Look Who’s Talking Too.

John Travolta, who co-starred in both films, paid tribute to her. Instagram post.
