Columbus Girls Summit held on International Girls’ Day

This one-day event observed the International Day of the Girl, celebrating the power of girls and shedding light on the barriers they may face.

Columbus, Ohio — 10th anniversary this year. international girl’s day (IDG) is a day to raise awareness of the importance and potential that girls have for the future.

A group of Columbus City Council women interacted with young girls at Columbus City Hall on Saturday. The day included hands-on activities and her panel discussion to encourage minority girls to use their voices at a young age.

City councilor Lourdes Barroso de Padilla said: “It will give our young people a platform where they can share their ideas and actually take home some of the solutions to the problems facing our city. That will be important for our future.

In recent years, governments and policy makers have paid more attention to issues affecting girls, giving girls more opportunities to make their voices heard on the world stage.

“We want girls to be leaders in this city,” she said. “Someday this pedestal will be as diverse as this city.”

The theme of the event was “Ignite Your Political Power”.

“I think it’s really important that black girls can come together and lift each other up,” Tiara Huggins said. black girls rising.

Members of Femergy, Black Girls Rising, Proyecto Mariposa, Eryn Pink and AFSCME local 1632 participated in the program.
