Community members gather at Indian Lake to discuss ongoing tornado relief

Indian Lake, Ohio (WDTN) — It's been seven weeks since an EF-3 tornado struck the Indian Lake area, and the community is still recovering from its aftermath.

The March 14 tornado killed three people, destroyed 300 homes, and damaged more than 1,000 properties and businesses.

Logan County EMA officials held a regional recovery plan open house Thursday night to ask residents about the areas most in need of assistance.

Logan County officials allowed residents to discuss their concerns with various subcommittees, including housing, communications, business and economic recovery.

“Without their input, we cannot move forward, and we cannot plan without hearing from the public what they need, what they want, and what they want after recovery.” It would be a little foolish to write that,'' Logan County EMA Director Helen Norris said.

Residents say they came to the open house hoping to get back on their feet after hitting a wall in rebuilding.

Lakeview resident Joe Johnson said, “We're in trouble because the park has decided they're not going to recognize us as a park anymore. We've been given a 30-day notice to leave. We're on day 28 now.” . “I need a new roof. I need new windows. I need new siding. I found a tow company to tow it for $3,000. And I only have a half-mile to go.”

A month after the tornado, residents are still feeling the effects but are hopeful that change is just around the corner.

“We are suffering and we need support. We need practice,” Johnson said. “You don't need a contractor. You don't need a licensed contractor. The church might come and help you install the siding. The church might come and help you install the windows. not.”

Logan County will host a meeting on May 21st to allow subcommittees to share draft plans for each area.
