The NFL and the world of sports at large lost an iconic legend Friday with the passing of former Cleveland Browns great Jim Brown.
Brown, one of the greatest players in sports history and an influential ambassador on and off the field, “had passed away peacefully” at the age of 87, according to a statement from his family.
The Cowboys released an official statement Friday.
“With great sadness and respect, my deepest condolences to the family of Jim Brown.The impact he had on our game and league on and off the field will always be remembered. I am very grateful for the life and achievements of Mr. “
Brown, the dominant running back of his era from 1957 to 1965, had many fights with the Cowboys, who started the franchise in 1960, but had some memorable moments against Brown and the Browns. I fought the rest.
Adding Brown to the lineup, the Browns played the Cowboys 11 times in the regular season, winning 10 of them. In those games, he averaged 95.7 yards and scored eight touchdowns.
Overall, Brown was a Pro Bowler in all nine years of his career. He led the NFL with eight rushes, garnered 12,312 yards, and finished his career winning league MVP three times. He retired at age 30 to pursue his other careers, including becoming an actor and civil rights activist.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
