YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The northeastern Ohio-based agency asked members of the community on Tuesday for their thoughts and questions about some of its plans.
The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments provides regional transportation plans. On Tuesday, we held a public input event at Youngstown’s main library to gather feedback on the agency’s metropolitan transit plan and regional bike and pedestrian plan.
“This involves gathering feedback from the local community to see what types of projects they would like to see in order to boost transport activity, and what strategies and outcomes the local community can recommend to improve. space,” said Justin Mondok, Assistant Director of Planning and Development.
Mondok said the agency works to support various projects in Trumbull and Mahoning counties. But they are asking for input from the community on what they want to improve in their hometown.
“You can’t make the best decisions if you don’t know what the public needs or what they’re looking at,” Monduk said.
Several projects currently participate in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, including the Smart2 Network in downtown Youngstown. In terms of bike and pedestrian paths, Monduk said he has other plans he would like to see come to fruition.
“There were some ideas to connect trails along the Mahoning River. Mahoning River is another major project. Eastgate invested in it,” said Mondok.
A dozen people attended Tuesday’s meeting. They were asked to provide their input on questions related to transportation, traffic jams, safety, and more.
