Geoga County Plane Crash

Midfield Township, Ohio (WJW) — Federal prisoners, four federal prison officers, and a pilot were on board the plane. Geoga County Airport Wednesday morning.

The multi-engine plane had an engine failure and made an emergency landing at the airport. Ohio Highway Patrol.

OSHP said the flight took off from Youngstown, Michigan and was headed to Detroit, Michigan. An inmate from Elkton Federal Correctional Facility in Lisbon, Colombiana County, and her four staff members were on board, the Federal Prison Service confirmed.

The Guerga County Sheriff’s Office has been notified by the Federal Aviation Administration that it has received a distress call from an aircraft saying it is experiencing an engine failure and must make an emergency landing at the Guerga County Airport.

The emergency landing exceeded the length of the runway and was involved in a minor collision that damaged the underside and landing gear of the plane, according to OSHP.

No injuries have been reported, according to the OSHP.

Middlefield Fire Department and Gauga County legislators also responded.

Middlefield Fire Chief Tony Yeropoli said the damage looked dramatic, but the muddy field the pilot landed on slowed the plane and helped avoid further damage.

Hierropoli said he was not surprised that everyone left the accident unscathed. He made sure the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

When the Middlefield crew arrived at the scene, passengers were roaming the outside of the plane and were medically evaluated by paramedics before law enforcement took over the inmate’s continued travel, he said.
