Guns and Hoses Return to Rock WesBanco Arena

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Fans of Saturday night’s Wheeling Nailers games can watch a hockey game within a hockey game.

Guns and Hoses is a five-minute game between the Wheeling Police and the Fire Department that takes place during the first intermission.

It’s first responder night. Participation is free for first responders.

Wheeling Fire debuts several new jerseys featuring the number 52 on the arm. That’s Matt McGovern, a firefighter who recently died of brain cancer. 52 is grey, raising awareness for brain tumors and honoring our brothers. His whole family will be in attendance, so it’s a really special night for the fire department.

Bob Heldreth, Wheeling Fire Chief

Over 600 tickets have been handed out to first responders throughout the Ohio Valley. Sponsored by Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.

Bob Heldreth says it’s going to be a fast-moving game that he doesn’t usually play hockey for, but just plays for bragging rights.
