John Marshall Heads to West Virginia State Tournament for Third Straight Year

Marshall County, West Virginia (WTRF) – A rainy day didn’t stop the local game at John Marshall.

On Tuesday, John Marshall (26-4) faced College (24-6) in the 3A Region 1 Championship.

The Monarchs defeated the University 2-0 in Game 1.

The Monarchs quickly scored two points in the first inning to take the lead.

Cadence Pettit had just four hits, no runs, and six strikeouts.

In the 3rd inning, Eva Blake hit a home run over the middle field and scored 5 points in that inning.

The Monarchs beat college five times, 8-0, to advance to the state tournament for the third straight year.

Captain Eva Blake says she’s ready to stir up trouble in Charleston.

“We are really going through all kinds of emotions right now, especially me and the captains are very emotional about being back in the state for the third year in a row and fighting for the state title. I don’t feel like it… it all starts before the game, going through the same routine, making sure we’re working on what we need to work on, sending the pitch where we need to be, so every time I step on the field I carry it around in a box, and it’s like the whole world moves for a split second and I let it all out, just leaving everything on the field each time.”

Eva Blake, JMHS Softball Captain

The state tournament will be held in Charleston on May 24 and 25.
