Man shot dead south of Columbus

Columbus, Ohio — Columbus Police Department It released the identity of a man who died in a shooting south of the city on Wednesday night. Police also said a second person was injured in the shooting.

In an update Thursday morning, Columbus Police said Adrian Smith, 39, was standing in the parking lot of the Express Beverage drive-thru on Rockbourne Road around 8:20 p.m.

Police said several people in the car drove past the store and opened fire on Smith, hitting him at least once. A 31-year-old man sitting in a car in the parking lot was also shot.

Arriving police found Smith in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:26 p.m.

During the investigation, officers learned that the man had driven himself to the 1800 block on Lynnwood Avenue before calling for help from the scene of the shooting.

The other man was taken to Grant Medical Center and is said to be in a stable condition.
