Upper Sandusky, Ohio (WCMH) — A woman died after police said she was attacked by a man with a machete inside a Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky on Sunday.
Officers in Upper Sandusky arrived at a store on East Wyandot Avenue at about 4:25 p.m. and received a call from a man waving a machete, police said. Officers have arrived.
Upper Sandusky Police and Wyandot County EMS rushed to the store and found the victim, Kerith L. Liebel, 22, dead. Another police unit searched for Bekele, and Bekele was found on South Fifth Street, about a mile away, on the He 100 block, police said.
During the course of the investigation, police learned that Bekele entered the store with a machete, approached River, and reportedly hit her several times with the machete.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the attack and are investigating any links between Bekele and the victim.
Upper Sandusky Police said Bekele had been charged with murder and that an investigation could lead to further charges.
The Wyandot County Serious Crimes Division is currently investigating the incident. The Ohio Criminal Investigative Service also assisted at the scene.
