Ohio man arrested for barricading his home

WEST PORTSMUTH, Ohio (WOWK) — A West Portsmouth man has been detained by SWAT for barricading his home after threatening his daughter and her mother, according to the Sioto County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff David Soloman said the Sheriff’s Department received a call at 4:32 p.m. The caller said her father, a man, had a gun.

The suspect allegedly withdrew into the house when deputies arrived on the scene. The man picked up a revolver and threatened to shoot law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office says more deputies have arrived to negotiate with the suspects. Four hours later, the sheriff called her SWAT team at Portsmouth Police for assistance.

The SWAT team attempted to force the suspect out of the house, as well as several more negotiations. After several unsuccessful attempts, SWAT broke into the residence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mark Anthony Hall, 51, of West Portsmouth, was taken into custody around 12:24 am.

Hall was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He was later taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The case will be turned over to the Syoto County Attorney’s Office for a grand jury trial.

The corresponding SWAT team consisted of personnel from the Portsmouth Police Department, the Siauto County Sheriff’s Office, and the Portsmouth Fire Department. Sheriff Truffman thanked the Portsmouth Police Department and Portsmouth Fire Department Tactical Medics for their assistance.
