Police respond to Springfield fire, explosion

Springfield, Ohio (WDTN) — Springfield’s first responders are at the scene of the explosion.

Police were originally called to assist the Springfield Fire Department at 1:08 p.m. on a suspected gas leak, according to Springfield Police. Springfield officials say a suspected gas leak exploded on the He 1,000 block of Springfield’s East Home Road.

Three people were taken to hospital, police said. Fire officials said one of the three injured was a baby.

Springfield Fire Chief Brian Miller says crew members were already on the scene before the explosion and were instrumental in the rescue mission.

“I’m glad they responded quickly and came out here to save the baby,” Miller said. “

The condition of the three injured is unknown.
