Polish boy from Cleveland named one of the world’s 10 best hot dogs

Taste Atlas named Cleveland’s Polish Boy one of the 10 best hot dogs in the world.

CLEVELAND — Last month, food website TasteAtlas announced its list. 10 best hot dogs in the world.

In a list that included entries from Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Brazil and of course Chicago, Cleveland was cut and the Polish boy ranked 10th.

“Polish boy is a signature sandwich from Cleveland, Ohio, with kielbasa sausage, coleslaw, French fries and barbecue sauce in a bun,” reads the website. It is believed that a restaurant owner named Whitmore most likely invented it by combining smoked beef sausage with other ingredients he had in his restaurant.

“Today there are some variations on the original, such as adding pulled pork to the already huge sandwich that is Polish boy.”

As for where to get the best Polish boys, TasteAtlas recommends Seti’s Polish Boys and Mabel’s BBQ on Lorain Ave. Written by 3News contributor Doug Trattner for Cleveland Scene in 2016.

“Thanks to a new wave of sausage-loving chefs and restaurateurs, we are seeing a genuine resurgence and improvement of the gut-busting, shirt-stained Polish boy,” Trattner wrote at the time. “New locations such as Mabel’s BBQ, Banter and Picnic allow diners to sit back, relax, and enjoy fun and delicious versions of Banning Wonders.”

The sandwich has previously been featured on food TV shows like “No Reservations” and “Man vs. Food,” so this isn’t the first time Polish Boy has received acclaim. Here are the entire Top 10 hot dog rankings on TasteAtlas.
