Alyssa Betts received her B.A. Junior high school education degree with a focus on language arts and mathematics.

“Alyssa excels academically and professionally, but most importantly, she has an extraordinary personality and is a wonderful human being,” said Jacqueline Yarn, associate professor of middle school education. “As a rural Junior Teacher Fellow, she has seized many opportunities to lead. In collaboration with Mrs. Dudzik at Burnsville Middle School, she has played a central role in developing the agriculture program and has spoken at conferences. , I have served as its spokesperson.”

Alyssa discovered her calling to be an educator during her field internship.

“From my first on-the-job training at Columbus City Schools to my most recent training at Burnsville Middle School, I knew I loved teaching,” she said.

Sierra Betts earned a B.A. social work degree with a minor in psychology.

Warren Galbreath, associate professor of social work, praised her leadership qualities and dedication to community service.

“Sierra maintains a 3.88 GPA and has demonstrated leadership qualities in both academic and community areas. Her active participation in the campus social work club encouraged her to pursue a career in social work. Additionally, her leadership role in the local 4-H club is a prime example of her commitment to both community service and academic excellence.” Galbreath said.

Alyssa and Sierra expressed their gratitude for the support they received from the Ohio University East faculty.

“Dr. Jahn was definitely the most influential professor I had,” Alyssa admits. “She had a wealth of knowledge about education in general.”

Sierra echoes this sentiment and is grateful to her professors for their guidance and encouragement.

“My favorite professor was Dr. Greenlee because he always made a positive difference in my life,” she said.

As these two outstanding sisters embark on the next chapter of their lives, their impact will resonate far beyond their hometown, and Alyssa hopes to impact middle school students. Meanwhile, Sierra plans to pursue a career as a qualified social worker in the country. school system.
