Six people were found dead in an early morning fire at a home in eastern Ohio, officials said.
The fire brigade was called to a village home in Newcomerstown around 1:30 am on Monday. The Tuskawas County coroner’s office said Monday afternoon that six victims were removed from the building. Details about the victims were not immediately released due to pending notification of relatives.
Mayor Pat Cadle said many area crews were on site throughout the night and morning despite what he called “extremely cold temperatures.” He said he was saddened by “this tragedy and loss of life”.
The (Canton) Repository reports that paramedics and state fire departments worked Monday to clear debris and crews dismantled most of the fire-damaged homes in the early afternoon.
The cause of the fire was not immediately announced.
