Storybook Walk includes activities for children of all ages and abilities

WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — The Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network and the Disability Inclusion Coalition invited families to participate in an inclusive picture book walk to celebrate Autism Inclusion Month.

An interactive station follows along with “Cows Can't Jump” by Dave Riesman. This book teaches children that it's okay that some animals may be able to do something even if other animals can't.

Rita Hawkins, a member of the Disability Acceptance Coalition, said the bookwalk promotes autism awareness and awareness of all disabilities.

I thought I would highlight the book “Cows Can't Jump” because we have always done something to raise awareness of autism, but you can do other things as well. Therefore, we want to show that there is a variety of activities for people of all ages and abilities.

Ms Hawkins said she hoped everyone in attendance had a good time and that the organizations involved would like to plan more community activities like this in the future.
