Jackson was a suspect in the Amber Alert after Kayson and his twin Kaia were taken from a Donato’s pizza shop in Short North.
The twins’ family cheered when they heard that Cayson had been found outside of Whitehall’s Loews on Thursday night.
The news comes after a harrowing few days for the family who had traveled across the state looking for their missing twins. Once it started, it became increasingly difficult for the family to remain optimistic.
But Thursday’s news was the perfect pre-Christmas gift, Lafonda said. I decided to go to Polis.
“My son, oh, there’s joy and joy in his voice knowing that my son is safe and healthy and I’m going to pick him up,” Lafonda said. “And it will make our Christmas the best Christmas of my 44 years of life.”
Investigators have been looking for Jackson, a 24-year-old homeless woman, since Columbus police named her as a suspect on Monday. disappearance of twinsKyair was found about 70 miles away, along a route between Columbus and Indianapolis.
Cayson’s discovery came after a 5 p.m. press conference, where Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said investigators had located Jackson in Indianapolis, but neither Cayson nor the stolen black Honda Accord were still available. Said it wasn’t found. Found in the Dayton area. She said the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information to locate Kayson.
Deputy Chief Smith Weir said investigators received several calls Thursday morning from people who said they had found Jackson. Her caller then contacted police in Indianapolis and eventually found her on Interstate 65 north of the city’s downtown.
Columbus police previously filed two charges of kidnapping against Jackson. Alongside charges from Ohio, his retired FBI agent Harry Trombitas indicated that federal charges could pile up on NBC4.
“It’s very likely that the FBI and other federal agencies will file what we call illegal flight to avoid prosecution,” Trombitas said. I’m assuming you’re aware of this and are deliberately avoiding anxiety, which also fits the definition of a fugitive… [It] May involve federal prosecutors. ”
I had Jackson List of Criminal Cases Regarding Custody of Her Own Children We’ve seen her in and out of prison in the last four years. Trombitas said her ability to get out of jail would also be severely limited in federal lawsuits while she awaits trial.
LaFonda Thomas told NBC4 early Thursday that all she felt after the Columbus police renewal was anger and frustration. and spoke directly to Jackson.
“I just want my grandson… will he come back?” Lafonda said tearfully. “I know how it feels to not have one of your own. Why would you deny other mothers the chance to love and raise their children?”
But after Cayson was found, Lafonda could only express her great joy that her two grandchildren were alive and well.
“This means everything,” Lafonda said. “My grandchildren can open presents at the same time. Not just one wants the other to be there. I’m so happy, I’m so grateful.”
