Suspected Stolen Hyundai Hits Hilliard Police Cruiser

Police said several officers stopped the Hyundai vehicle in a cruiser while the driver attempted to flee by ramming the vehicle.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people were detained in a stolen vehicle after it collided with a police cruiser and another parked vehicle in the Target parking lot in Hilliard on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police said several officers stopped the Hyundai vehicle in a cruiser while the driver attempted to flee by ramming the vehicle. Another car in the parking lot was also hit.

A police officer suffered minor injuries in the incident, said Hilliard Police Chief Mike Woods.

Police said they had reported a Hyundai vehicle stolen from Columbus. Woods told 10TV that officers said the suspects apparently tried to repaint the car to hide its original color.

Two people were detained after the incident, a man police said was driving the stolen Hyundai and a woman who was in the vehicle, whose age was not disclosed. Police said the woman was wanted on multiple felony warrants.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene, according to the Columbus Police Department.
