Two children killed in Westchester apartment fire, mother charged
The mother has been charged with endangering her children and manslaughter after a fire broke out on Astor Park Drive in West Chester on September 17, 2022. Two cases of involuntary manslaughter and four of her children at risk. At approximately 12:17 pm on Sept. 17, 2022, firefighters were dispatched to his Meadow Ridge apartment complex at 5259 Aster Park Dr., according to authorities. West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz, 4-year-old Bryson Brooks, and his 2-year-old Alia Encarnacion, Cincinnati, died after he was treated at Children’s, the medical examiner said. She is 6 years old and he is 9 months old. Westchester officials confirmed after the fire that no adults were in the apartment at the time of the fire.
A mother has been charged with endangering her child and involuntary manslaughter after a fire broke out on West Chester’s Astor Park Drive on September 17, 2022.
Ashley Janine Riles faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter and four counts of endangering a child, according to an indictment filed by the Butler County Court Clerk.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Meadow Ridge apartment complex at 5259 Astor Park Drive at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2022, officials said.
West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz said the fire was confined to one apartment where four children were found.
Bryson Brooks, 4, and Alia Encarnacion, 2, died after being treated at Cincinnati Children, the coroner said.
The other two surviving children are 6 years and 9 months.
