Gas demand was little changed last week, rising slightly to 7.56 barrels per day from 7.51 million barrels per day, according to Energy Information Administration data. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline inventories increased from 222.7 million barrels to 226.8 million barrels. Flat gasoline demand and rising supply will limit pump price increases.
At the end of Friday’s formal trading session, the West Texas Intermediate rose $1.47 and closed at $79.86. A weaker dollar helped push oil prices higher over the weekend. Moreover, markets rallied after China increased its quota for oil purchases this year, in a sign crude demand may be stronger than expected.
