West Virginia gas prices up 12 cents from last week

According to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report, the average price of gasoline in Northwest Virginia this week is 12 cents higher, at $3.309 per gallon.

Trend analysis:
The national average for a gallon of gasoline rose 5 cents over the week to $3.32. Today’s average is 17 cents higher than it was a month ago and 1 cent higher than it was over a year ago. Gas demand was little changed last week, rising slightly to 7.56 barrels per day from 7.51 million barrels per day, according to Energy Information Administration data. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline inventories increased from 222.7 million barrels to 226.8 million barrels. Flat gasoline demand and rising supply will limit pump price increases.

At the end of Friday’s formal trading session, the West Texas Intermediate rose $1.47 and closed at $79.86. A weaker dollar helped push oil prices higher over the weekend. Moreover, markets rallied after China increased its quota for oil purchases this year, in a sign crude demand may be stronger than expected.
