East Palestine, Ohio (WTRF) – Residents of East Palestine attended a town hall meeting at East Palestine High School Wednesday night to get some answers following a massive train derailment there. I tried
Mayor Trent Conaway, Ohio Representative Bill Johnson, and representatives from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency answered questions.
As to why the authorities deliberately blew up the train, they said that the train would blow up no matter what they did, and that the longer they waited, the worse things would get.
As for the dead fish found in the river, EPA officials believe butyl acrylate was the main culprit behind these particular deaths. bottom.
EPA officials also noted that the odor some residents were noticing was likely also from butyl acrylate. However, their tests showed that butyl acrylate levels were not high enough to cause health problems, they said.
Norfolk Southern, which operates the railroad, did not attend the meeting. Employee safety concerns are raised.
