Singer Bret Michaels adopts husky named Bret Michaels

WASHINGTON — Former Poison frontman Bret Michaels has adopted a 6-year-old husky named Bret Michaels.

The 60-year-old rockstar heard about Bret Michaels (the dog) after the Nebraska Humane Society shared a story on Facebook about the husky giving a life-saving blood donation to a kitten dealing with flea anemia. 

The medical staff at the organization had been working on a trio of month-old kittens who had been brought in as strays. The three kittens were “dirty, cold and covered in fleas.” While two of the kittens made a quick recovery, one of them was still lethargic and weak, according to the post. 

After the kitten was diagnosed with flea anemia, the medical staff realized the feline needed blood to survive. The husky named after the former Poison frontman had recently had bloodwork done and was deemed the perfect candidate to donate blood to the kitten, according to the Nebraska Humane Society.

On Friday, the organization shared that the singer had adopted the heroic canine.

“We’ve got an AWESOME update to share with you all about the fabulous Bret Michaels,” the post read. “Well, word got around to THE Bret Michaels who loved the story and wanted to chat with us. One phone call later and guess who’s gonna be living the rock star life from here on out? That’s right! Bret Michaels (the man) is adopting Bret Michaels (the dog)!”

Later that day, Michaels shared a series of photos on Facebook of the newly-adopted husky.

“I could not have been more touched and more honored to adopt Bret Michaels the husky, knowing that he gave blood to save the life of a kitten,” the singer told People in a statement. “I could not work fast enough to adopt this husky and extend the awesome quality of little Bret Jr.’s life.”

Michael’s decision to adopt the husky comes shortly after the death of his 14-year-old German shepherd Phoenix earlier this year, People reports.
