Wheeling Memorial, dedicated to local veterans and community advocates

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – This weekend, area veterans gather to remember one of them who made a huge impact on communities across the Ohio Valley.
John Nanny is a Marine Corps veteran who has dedicated much of his life to advocating for both veterans and children.
He passed away in January 2022.
A group of his friends, who describe Nanny as a selfless person, raised funds to build a memorial next to the Gold Star family memorial monument in Wheeling’s Heritage Port.

It will be dedicated in a special ceremony honoring Nanny’s life on Saturday, April 15th.
“I don’t want to lose his legacy. In just six months, he raised enough money to donate here.”

Nanny was instrumental in bringing the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument to Wheeling in 2019.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 15th at 2:00 PM near the Heritage Port Monument.
