Columbus, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman has been charged with murdering her 5-year-old son in northeast Columbus, according to Columbus Police.
Police said they responded to a call Monday from the National Children’s Hospital saying the child was pronounced dead at 12:52 p.m.
Police questioned the boy’s mother, Saad Mohammed Adam, 44, who found the boy had been ill for several weeks, hadn’t eaten regularly, and was unable to eat, according to court records. I learned that I hadn’t walked since November.
Adam told police that he did not provide medical services to his son because he “heard voices telling him not to take him to the doctor,” court records say.
A Nationwide Children’s doctor told police the boy was likely suffering from “prolonged hunger or a very inadequate diet,” according to court records.
Adam was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony endangerment of a child. Police said additional charges could be filed after consulting with the county attorney’s office.
Adam appeared in court on Tuesday and was released on bail. Her next court appearance is January 19th.
Columbus Police said the department would request additional charges pending a meeting with the prosecutor’s office.
