Youngstown police arrest Leland Love for shooting woman who vandalized car

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A woman was hit by a bullet while vandalizing a car in her South Side backyard early Wednesday morning, according to reports.

Leland Love, 21, the man police said shot him, was incarcerated at Mahoning County Jail on assault charges. He is scheduled to be charged in district court late Wednesday.

Detective Capt. Jason Simon said officers were called to the 300 block on Edwards Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. to report the shooting, and upon arrival, a woman who had been grazed by a bullet was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. It’s on Belmont Street.

Police learned that the woman had vandalized a car in the backyard of the house and Ai had shot several shots at her, Simon said. Simon said he had recovered a firearm that could be used.

Simon said Love was arrested because he had no self-defense issues.

Further details on this matter will be announced later on Wednesday.

Police also investigated another shooting Wednesday morning.

Around 4:00 a.m., a man showed up at Boardman’s St. Elizabeth Health Center with a superficial gunshot wound. He told police he was shot near the intersection of Albert Street and McGuffey Road, but said the victim was not very cooperative.
