YSU shows record number of international students
Youngstown, Ohio (WKBN) – Spring semester classes begin this Monday at Youngstown State University, with a record number of freshmen from around the world.
In addition to the more than 320 international students who enrolled last fall, 175 international students from 60 countries will begin their undergraduate or graduate courses.
Managers say freshmen mean more on campus and more in the living area.
“This region is a declining region. Between that and the 18- to 25-year-old demographic, the opportunity to actually take advantage of the significant out-of-region enrollment flow is a net plus,” said the YSU Vice Chancellor. Nate Myers says.
In addition to the international students currently here, another 500 international students are expected to enroll next fall semester.
Myers says the largest number of international students come from Nepal, India and Vietnam.
