Office of Instructional Design Offers Canvas Migration Support Workshops and Resources for Ohio State Teachers

The Office of Educational Design (OID) is helping you transition from Blackboard to Canvas by offering a suite of resources, including workshops, one-on-one consultations, virtual office hours, and comprehensive guidance materials.

The Office Instructional Design team will support instructors throughout the transition period, offering biweekly and weekly workshops to ensure effective use of Canvas and to help instructors become familiar with Canvas' new features. We are promoting. Faculty can attend these workshops to gain practical insights and strategies for a successful transition.

Migrate your course to Canvas. Interested in learning how to efficiently migrate your Blackboard courses to Canvas? In this workshop, you'll gain the tools, knowledge, and resources you need to start working with Canvas. You will have time to create your course with the assistance of an instructional technologist and instructional designer.

Build a new course in Canvas: This workshop will provide you with the tools, knowledge, and resources you need to start building courses in Canvas. You will have time to work on the course with the assistance of an instructional technician and instructional designer.

Rating on Canvas: This workshop will guide instructors through the process of migrating formative and summative assessments from Blackboard to the new Canvas LMS. Attendees will gain insight into effective strategies for a smooth transition, learn best practices for preparing course content for a similar or comparable experience, and learn about the new Canvas environment. Gain a comprehensive understanding of scoring functions.

Canvas course design and layout considerations: This workshop will cover important aspects of course design in Canvas LMS, including an overview of design principles and course organization strategies. Participants will learn about course information, content organization, assessment strategies, and accessibility considerations through hands-on activities and his Q&A sessions.

Design for student engagement with Canvas: This workshop will explore effective strategies to enhance student engagement with the Canvas LMS platform. Participants will participate in hands-on activities while learning how to create content that is interactive, inclusive, and inspiring. Emphasis is placed on practical techniques for designing courses that engage students and promote participatory, high-touch learning. This workshop will cover her Canvas tools for collaboration, assessment, user analysis, and effective multimedia integration, providing instructors with the skills to transform their digital classrooms into dynamic learning environments.

Canvas group consultation: Prepare your Canvas course for delivery. These studio-style work sessions provide you with the opportunity to work on your course alongside instructional designers and technologists, providing hands-on support and making strategic course experience decisions. Participants will be assigned a dedicated time slot during the session to accommodate their specific needs identified in advance. Participants will also have the opportunity to share perspectives with other faculty members.

Deputy Dean/Assistant Dean and Dean: The Office of Instructional Design is ready to participate in departmental meetings to provide an overview and hands-on demonstration of teaching in Canvas. During these consultations, OID experts will guide faculty members through their transition from her Blackboard to her Canvas, and will also address any specific questions or concerns the faculty member may have.
