After many workers lost their jobs, the Cleveland-Cliffs plant in Weirton is booming with the potential to bring jobs back to Ohio Valley workers.

USW 2911 President Mark Gryptis confirmed that he and Cleveland Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves are in talks to reinstate the Weirton plant as a transformer manufacturer that makes electrical components.

Glyptis says it is in the very early stages, but 800 to 1,000 jobs could return to Weirton if transformer manufacturer ERMCO takes over the plant.Glyptis called this a “miracle”

Glyptis said that once word got out that the plant would reopen, 107 employees who worked at the Weirton plant and had jobs at other Cleveland-Cliffs facilities called and asked when they could return to Weirton.

Gryptis said in a meeting with CEO Gonsalves that Gonsalves said the people who worked at the Weirton plant were a great group of workers and that the company is considering options on how to keep the plant open. Stated.

Glyptis said the plant would most likely retain the Cleveland-Cliffs name if it opens as a transformer manufacturing company.

Glyptis also hopes that once it opens as a transformer manufacturing company, all of the employees who lost their jobs will return to the factory.

The Cleveland-Cliffs plant was officially shut down on April 20th. The union condemns the International Trade Commission's unfavorable ruling.
