ODNR responds to Austin Master Services contamination concerns

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) – Martins Ferry residents say they are worried about contamination as they see flooding approaching oil and gas waste management company Austin Master Services. .

Residents told 7NEWS they were worried that waste may have leaked into the floodwaters during bad weather earlier this month.

Attorney General Dave Yost requested a temporary restraining order It filed a lawsuit against the company last month for accumulating hazardous waste in excess of permit limits.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) confirmed to 7 News today that its staff was aware of the flooding concerns.

“ODNR staff was on site during last week's flooding conditions and confirmed there was no impact to materials,” said Andy Chou, ODNR communications director.

Chow also said the court granted the preliminary injunction on April 3, adding that Austin Masters has 14 days to comply, including removing excess waste.
