Local advocacy groups honor National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Belmont County, Ohio (WTRF) – April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

During this month, local advocacy groups work to educate the community about resources for victims.

One of those agencies is Tri-County Help Center.

This help center works diligently year-round to provide resources to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking in Belmont, Monroe, and Harrison counties.

This month's national awareness campaign will allow us to reach out to our communities and provide further education about prevention and where to get help if we need it.

“Our goals in our advocacy work are to raise awareness of victim blaming and sexual violence, to break down the stigma, and to educate communities about how we can help each other with available services and how we can help victims. It is important to provide thorough education.”

Chelsea Scott | Tri-County Help Center Executive Director

The Tri-County Help Center has a 24-hour hotline for those who need assistance at any time.

That number is (740) 695-5441.

On Thursdays at 5pm on 7News, we will air an in-depth report on the center's history, including an exclusive interview with its founder.
