Petroleum products spill into Ohio River in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Emergency management officials report a petroleum product leak into the Ohio River near Pottery Addition.

According to Jefferson County 911, the smell of gas was reported Friday night around 8:40 p.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and investigated the cause, but it appeared to be water leaking into the river from a culvert.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Brooke County Emergency Management Agency and the Coast Guard have all been notified.

The Jefferson County EMA director is scheduled to meet with EPA officials on Saturday.
